The Annual Froid Research Farm tour is scheduled for June 28th this

year. The farm is located 7 miles north of Culbertson on Highway

16. The registration time has changed from last year and will begin

at 9:30 a.m. The tour is divided into two portions, an off- farm bus

tour and an on-farm research tour.

Busses will promptly leave for the off farm tour at 10:00 a.m. The first

stop will be a feed lot near Reserve. The owner and personnel from

NRCS in Plentywood will be sharing the guidelines that were followed

for the Environmental Quality Incentive Program (EQIP) that was used

to build the feedlot. The next stop will be the Medicine Lake Wildlife

Refuge. There, the group will gain insight into the Refuge’s custom

burning practices and also their grazing policies and grassland

management. The tour will then return to the Froid Research Farm

around noon for a steak dinner sponsored by the Sheridan and

Roosevelt County Conservation Districts.

The on-farm tour will begin around 1:00 p.m. On the tour this year

will be a talk on precision agriculture from CHS Precision Crop

Management. With high fertilizer and fuel prices accuracy in the field

saves more money than ever.

Carbon credits are now being offered in Montana for producers.

Talking about the Carbon Credit program is Montana is Jim Sargent

from Montana Farmers Union. Farmers Union is currently

administering the program for Montana producers. Upendra Sainju,

NPARL Soil Scientist, will also offer data on carbon sequestration

from an agronomics trial that has been on the farm form many years.
