Sustainable Landscape - definition and benefits for Urban program.

Ex. of Sustainable Landscapes and how to create one that is

efficient for pest control and water use.

What species work best in various locations of the Bitterroot Valley.

Program_Remarks: Using native species can be more desirable when

controlling pest and can enhance an intergrated approach in pest

management. With the influx of small acerage parcels in Ravalli

County, the use of native and hardy introduction species in a

landscaping situation can affect how pesticides are used in the home

or pasture environment, decreasing the potential of pesticides found

in water sources in the county. Using a sustainable approach to land

management also encourages a greater competition between

undesirable species, including noxious weeds and desirable species.

Many times the desirable native species are very competitive and can

be very effective in controlling other weeds.

I feel this program is a great Urban IPM seminar. It will be very well

attended.
