Frequently Asked Questions
Question: It is my understanding that anyone who gets a private pesticide applicators license in year 1-4 of the recertification cycle needs to also get 6 credits by the end of their respective recertification year.  Only a person getting a license in year 5 of the recertification cycle does not have to get the 6 credits.  Is this correct?

Answer: You are correct. Applicators getting their license in years 1-4 of the cycle need 6 credits by the end of their Pesticide District's recertification cycle (year 5). Those getting their license in year 5 don't need the 6 credits.

Question: Does the MSU Pesticide Education Program (MSU-PEP) Office update the Montana Dept of Agriculture on those applicators who have fulfilled their recertification qualifications all at one time?

Answer: Yes. Each county in the pesticide regions that is up for recertification needs to send to the Pesticide Education Program Office (PO Box 173029, MSU, Bozeman, MT 59717-3020) by October 17th of the recertification year, a list of the applicators in their county who have gotten 6 credits over the 5 year recertification cycle. This listing is contained in the Pesticide Education Record Keeping System database.

Each database that is received is compiled, converted and sent to the Montana Department of Agriculture before 1 November. Given this time frame, the MDA will then send out renewal notices at the end of the recertification year to all those who qualify.

If anyone attends a certification program or takes the closed-book recertification exam after a list has been sent to MSU-PEP , then that person needs to fill out the "Application For Farm Applicator Special Use Permit", have it signed in the upper right hand corner and then send it directly to:
